Ruakura Energy Ltd is an Electricity Distribution Business (EDB) formed in March 2024 to serve commercial electricity users at Ruakura Superhub, one of the largest inland port and logistics precincts in Australasia.
At 610 ha, the Superhub is an intergenerational development led by Tainui Group Holdings for Waikato-Tainui that includes logistics, industrial, commercial and retail property elements anchored by what will grow out to be a 30ha inland port. Stage one, at 120 ha, is home to a number of large warehouse and distribution centres with significant and growing energy needs including for temperature controlled, cold-chain operations. Returns generated by Ruakura Energy support the economic, social and cultural development of Waikato-Tainui - one of the largest iwi in New Zealand with 91,000+ registered members.
The Ruakura Energy network includes a substation with 2 x 30MVA transformers and an underground cable network. The network management will be performed by PowerNet, one of New Zealand's most experienced third party network operators. www.powernet.co.nz
